Job Retention Scheme

On 17th March my employer laid off 15 of us. The next day the furlough worker scheme was announced. My employer has refused to put us on the scheme. This is outrageous. It’s not their money but they have the say in whether we get it or not. Companies should be compelled to put employees on the scheme, not lay them off.

He has to pay originally and then claim it back so it is his money to begin with. As he has had to lay of so many he may not be able to afford to pay 15 people and hope to be able to get the money back. All the jobs lost might have been something he was planning anyway, just bad timing.
