Windows 98 ethernet problem

Hi just updated my pc with an ethernet wired adaptor. I've swiched broadband poviders and the modem only uses ethernet cablem modem. So I have to switch from usb to ethernet. I've purchased a belkin ethernet card which I've installed.

The issue I have when I install the new drivers for the ethernet card is that it's asking for the windows 98 cd for additional files. I've never had the cd therefore how can I get these files to get the bloody card to work??

Any ideas thanks.....

You need a Win98 installation CD - there's no other way around it. It needs to install some networking components that are missing. You could try pointing it to \windows\system or windows\system32 when it asks as a lot of the time, it just copies over the files it already has.

I think it's something to do with Network Neighbourhood, this is not installed by default.
So if there was no NIC originally then MS family Logon and MS Network Client would not have been installed.
BTW I'm not sure I've got the two MS programs exact.

If you do not already have the Network Neighbourhood icon on your desktop or in Control Panel I don't think it is installed.

You will have to get hold of a Win 98 disk somehow.

By coincidence I've just done the same today, making a Win 98 PC out of odds and sods for a young relative, bunged in a card, installed 98 from scratch.
192mb RAM, Opera browser and it flies (relatively).
    Move along, nothing to see.

Can you press the Windows button(Flying squares) on your keyboard together with the Pause Break button.

Which version of Windows is shown: 4.10.1998/4.10.1998A or 4.10.2222A/4.10.2222B?

I could try sending you a 98 SE disc. It may have the required files.
