Direct Ferries - Can I get a Refund?

Hi All,

I booked a non-refundable ferry ticket from Holyhead to Dublin a few months ago (way before the pandemic), leaving on 6th April & returning on 17th April. I booked it through Direct Ferries & the operator is Irish Ferries. As far as I know the ferries are still running but I have cancelled my holiday as we are in lock-down for the foreseeable future. Direct ferries is refusing a refund even though we are in lock-down. Is it worth pursuing this with my travel insurance company or will I not be eligible for a refund given that it is a non-refundable ticket. I thought I would check here before contacting the travel insurance company as they must be completely inundated with customers in more urgent situations. Direct ferries said that the best they can do is reschedule my ticket, but that isn't ideal for me & would be a last resort.

Would appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks

If the service is still running and they're offering to reschedule, I'd say that's fair.
Better that than half the travel companies we'll rely on when this is over going bust, as everyone has demanded a refund!

Direct Ferries will only be able to apply the policy that Irish Ferries are applying.  From Irish Ferries website:

To assist customers who no longer want to travel and in order to provide greater flexibility, customers who have booked a ferry crossing with Irish Ferries and are due to depart up to 31 May can avail of the following options:

Free amendment: Customers can amend their booking to a later travel date anytime up to 18 December 2020 with no amendment fees.  Fare difference will apply where applicable.

Cancellation: customers who wish to cancel their booking for travel up to May 31 can do so, and any applicable cancellation fee due will be credited for use on a future booking for travel in 2021 on either the Ireland France or Irish Sea routes (subject to availability).

If that really isn't acceptable then talk to your travel insurance to see if you would be covered to claim from them.

    Thanks both. Appreciate the advice.
  • Hi,
We have a ferry booked through Directferries for a Dover to Calais crossing on 7 July using DFDS. Our campsite has cancelled at the other end so we are trying to see what is possible with our non-refundable ticket. Emailed direct ferries 14 days ago - no response - and now we can't find any way to contact them on the website. We just go round in circles.  We seem to be able to rebook by December 2020, which is useless as we won't get a chance to go away by then. Does anyone know what we can do now?
    Thanks
  • We have flights booked  in early August to USA.  Outward/return flights are with British Airways, (booked through American Airlines via a uk travel agent), internal Flights are with American Airlines.  The outward flight is a daily flight but hasn’t operated since March, if this is still the case in August, are we entitled to a full refund of flights, or do we have to take the later flight in the day which has still been operating during the pandemic, if we are transferred to it.   American airlines  are offering credit vouchers valid until Dec 2021, but I would prefer a cash refund if possible.  Thanks in advance.
