They had to close some of the call centres and said very long wait on the phone.

How big was the rise?  (Ours went from £45 pm to £55)  Once out of your contract you can cancel at any time, so we plan to wait until things are better and then renegotiate.

Can you not see what's offered to you on the VM  web ??
Many infrastructure company's are dealing with the most vulnerable first.

We also could do with some advice on this one for an elderly friend at the end of a deal period. Virgin is putting up their bill by £28 per month but our friend can't get through to them to renegotiate. The friend would be classed as vulnerable because they're in self-isolation for the duration and also have health issues, so how can we help them contact Virgin and let them know this?
We've been told you can't switch to bt because they don't use Virgin cable and aren't installing new lines at present, but is it worth asking bt if there's a pre-existing line that can be reactivated?
Many thanks for any advice the forum can offer.

Even if there is an old BT line and infrastructure, it would require necessary access to your friend's home to reconnect it. Would that be wise if he is "vulnerable"?

Face it, if Virgin are maintaining a service to your "vulnerable" friend then they are fulfilling their obligation. Clearly he has already enjoyed a retention deal, so the bill is not being raised it's just returning to normal.

Best to wait out the crisis before even thinking about any  haggling for a better deal or transfer to a new supplier. However, if he's a Sky Sports subscriber, he could  certainly save the cost of this by pausing it for the duration and this can be done online.

It might be different if your friend had lost his job or significant income, but that doesn't seem likely given the situation you describe...
