i live with my elderly father . if i isolate for 14 days and my work closes during that time do i stay on ssp for the duration they are closed
or do i go to 80% pay after the 14 days .
just like to say i work for that big online giant . being told we are key workers even thou the warehouse only stocks non essential goods
even been given a letter to show police if we are stopped on the way to work . how long do you think this can go on for ?
ridiculous when so many people work together for non essentials . thanks

To get SSP you need an official reason as per NHS 111 guidelines (I won't list them all here). If your employer gives you SSP without that then so be it but I am not sure whether they will be fully eligible to claim that back from HMRC.
If you are furloughed you will be notified and should be given a date from when your furlough will start. I can't see any reason why you would not be covered by the scheme from that date.1 -
i will have an official reason if my father gets ill . but thanks will have to look into it further0

Yes - that's correct. You will if he does. I have seen today the following:
If your employee is on Statutory Sick Pay
Employees on sick leave or self-isolating should get Statutory Sick Pay, but can be furloughed after this.
Employees who are shielding in line with public health guidance can be placed on furlough.

unforeseen said: The employer is not obliged to pay anything (including SSP) if someone takes time off to care for somebody regardless of the reasons (coronavirus included). That contradicts your answer in 'Furlough and SSP' thread about SSP if somebody in household has symptoms
if father has symptoms and OP self isolates for 14 days he is treated as I’ll for that’s period and entitled to SSP. He cannot be treated as a furloughed employee during this time. Once the 14 days is up he is eligible to be treated as a furloughed employee if his employer has no work for him. However his employers is not obliged to do this and OP is not eligible for SSP beyond the 14 days of self isolation.
Apologies for the confusion.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
