Does anyone know what the Arnold Clark pricing codes mean?

I know a lot of places use different prices to denote different things like discounting (.99 vs .95 etc), and I'm sure the car dealers do it.
I'm looking at a car that ends in £298, and another than ends in £498, which I don't think is random.
Does anyone actually know what the codes represent?

They're trying to appear higher up in the online price comparison lists by being £1 cheaper than the competition?

Evans Halshaw pricing is done whereby each week a car doesn't sell, the last number is reduced by 1. i.e. it starts at £XXX9 and then drops to £XXX8 after a week. Not sure how long that goes on for, or whether AC do similar.

    1. Are you sure this isn't just urban myth?
    2. Does it matter? Offer what you think it's worth, if they don't accept it, walk away.
    3. Are you really in the market for a car NOW?

When I bought mine they had about 60 pre-reg of the same model with various specs and the majority ended in 498 with a few at 298.  On Autotrader they had them priced at 500 and 300.  They are advertising brand new at 628.  I don't think it means anything.

I don't think it's an urban myth, because I know other shops use a similar system.
I'm not really in the market for a car now, being MSE the car I have is great but I've got my eye on a couple of upgrades that I can snap up if the price becomes right. I'm just trying to establish if there's a point where they'll drop the price on it again or if it'll just get shipped off to auction.
