Scrapping car and insurance

So as I mentioned on an earlier thread my car has died, so will need to scrap it.
If a breakers yard was to open, (I think not my Husband think yes) and they were willing to collect the car, could I keep paying my car insurance until I buy a new car and swap the insurance over?
I am very happy with my insurers and want to stay with them.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Phone your insurer and let them know.
It will probably depend how long there will be between scrapping old car and getting new one.0 -

My gut feeling is that no one will collect the car until current restrictions are lifted, but my Husband would rather it was off the drive.
I'll give my insurer a call once we have an idea of what's possible.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

If you speak to them they might agree to suspend your cover until you've bought another car.0

Direct Line are sending emails saying don't phone unless you really have to. I would just leave it until things improve or you have bought a car.0

Don't leave a car insured when you are no longer the keeper - if is involved in any sort of incident/accident a claim could still be made against your policy.
Under normal circumstances insurers are often happy to suspend insurance while you source a new vehicle, may not be so easy to arrange in the current environment though...0 -
I am considering putting sons learner car on a Sorn for the lockdown (the policy is not cheap), so wanted to suspend or end the insurance.Aviva's website FAQ tells you to do this by phone. The phone line announcement points you back to the website and ends abruptly.0

Thank you all, I'll SORN it and it'll stay on the drive until everything is up and running againMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

There is no actual need to SORN it unless the tax has run out, or you want to cash in the tax- but you might as well if you want the tax back for April. (but you can't ever move even one wheel onto the street again)Just keep it on the drive insured as normal (it will be no more "in the way" than before) , then when you get a new one, arrange collection by a scrap dealer (make sure you get the vehicle scrapped section of the v5 filled in and keep it, I think you can inform DVLA online with the details), and swap the insurance to the new one.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
