in Credit cards
Hi.
I’ve just had a very worrying security call from the Halifax. Last week they rang to check a transaction that had occurred on my credit card. It turned out to be to a US software company for £400+. This, plus a couple of other transactions, had nothing to do with me or any other members of my family. The card used had not long arrived (couple of weeks) from the Halifax after they changed over from Visa to Mastercard and had never been used by us and had never left my wallet. To give Halifax credit they immediately stopped all the transactions and blocked the account. A couple of days ago a new set of cards arrived. This evening (Thursday) I had another security call from Halifax. The exact same transactions had been attempted (amounts varied by a few pounds) on the new card. Bear in mind these were on a brand new card (and obviously a different number from the previous blocked account) that had never left the house and had not been used before. The envelope the cards arrived in had not appeared to be tampered with. Now this raises the question as to how this could have happened. Do Halifax have a security leak somewhere or is there another way my card number could have been ripped off? Any thoughts? Of course this also highlights the need to check your statement carefully every time.

Are you 100% the phone calls are from Halifax?....... Easiest way to check is ring them back on the number you were given at the start.
Just make sure your not being duped!0 -
Definately call Halifax about this. You haven't had any calls wanting to make sure the card was received and asking for the last 3 digits on the back of the card have you?

Hello again
Thanks for your replies. In answer to your question Zebedee69 - I rang the customer service number given on the Halifax statements and they put me through to the fraud department so I have no doubt that the calls are genuine. To answer you GeorgeUK I haven't had any calls regarding this card expect from Halifax (see above) and the cards have been brand new with nothing at all brought on them. Halifax have said the police will be informed so we will wait to see if anything comes of it. I have cancelled my account totally with Halifax now.
