I meet the criteria but due to having a baby in the last tax year (2018/2019) I had 12 weeks off, so therefore didn’t earn as much profit which will bring my average down, seems un fair to discriminate against women?! I really hope they take this into consideration0

Hi can anyone please advise.
My husband is a director of a limited company and pays us both a small wage. We are aware we can only get 80% of this small wage as dividend aren't included. Majority of my earnings come from my self employed business but I only started in June 2019 so cant get any help as I havent yet sent in a self assessment. Would we be able to get universal credit to top us up as the 80% isnt going to cover much for us. I'm confused at what we would put in as our earnings to apply for universal credit. We are currently earning 0. However hopefully by the end of april we will be the 80% of our salaries.

Whether you qualify for UC will depend on your circumstances. See https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Hello I am part of a family business, there are 4 partners does the £50,000 threshold apply to us individually or the business as a whole?0

So I’m a self employed sole trader (plumber) I have stopped work due to the virus. I have a current account and would like to get access to the business interruption loan? Just enquires with HSBC and for 3k for 12 months it’s 7.1% APR? I’m not entitled to UC as my partner works. Please can you shed some
light on this. Thanks0 -
I was devastated with yesterdays announcement. My work has stopped, I work in the Pubs clubs retail and leisure industry and this is completely gone from a full diary to zero in 1 day. My earnings and income fell of a cliff literally. When they announced help for employed workers they never put a limit on salaries so why have they done it on us. i could have understood if they said 80% up to a max profit of 50K so someone earning 70K would have still got 80% of his first 50K and forfeit any profit over the 50K if you get my meaning. I would be happy to forfiet any amount over a limit to make it fair and everyone gets something to help. it makes no sense to me that someone who earned 49K ,and qualifies they will get up to £2500 per month
MY self assessment for April 2019 (12 months ago) was 59K so i am not eligible for any help even though we have no money coming in to our home. They say payments will be in June and i think that gives us enough time to get our year end in. In 9 days time it will be the Year end for all self employed both new and old. I will be nowhere near last years figures and would easily qualify if they use this years figures. All the new self employed who have yet to complete a year end would also qualify. How is it right to help 95% of affected workers and ignore the other 5%. Do they think i dont need food or pay any bills. MPs earn 80K a year basic it would be different if the shoe was on the other foot.
Please Martin have a word and ask them to use common sense.0 -
My profits are just under the tax threshold.. will I still receive 80%?0

Does anyone know how workers in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) make a claim?
My husband pays his Tax & NI weekly and then he receives a tax rebate at the end of the financial year.
He is not working due to all non essential building sites closing and unable to claim benefits (UC) as I work full time and over threshold. Where does this leave him at the moment zero income? Can anyone help please ?1 -
Those of us affected by the arbitrary £50000 average profit cap are clearly more than 5% of the total of self employed workers and it is ridiculous to apply different criteria to us compared to employees- who can access sick pay, paid holidays and often pension schemes to which their employer contributes- unlike the self employed. This is grossly unfair- a petition would be a good idea- you can also email the chancellor directly with your complaint- his email address is easy to find if you key in his name to Google0

s_bradley89 said:I am self employed and on the construction scheme. I subcontract for a company that has been shut down due to Coronavirus. I should be entitled to the 80% the government have announced but can’t wait till June. I don’t have tax a side as I pay mine weekly through the construction scheme. I’ve looked into universal credits but it says I need to apply with my partner. She’s still working but from home and on 80%. It says she either needs to apply for universal credits or change her situation of universal credits. She’s still working so shouldn’t need to do either of the options so do I apply as a single person? We have a 4 year old son, a mortgage and bills to pay. I’m so confused as to what route I need to go down. Any help will be massively appreciated.0
