  • Having just read the post's above has answerd the question I had. I also have not had a statement since January this year. Last week I had a email from them saying that my direct debit was going up and that I was £140 in debit although my statements tell me that I am £205 ic credit .I have gone through all my statements and counted up all my gas and electric use so I  contacted Tonik by email only to get a email back that looks like a standerd reply  that was about as helpful as tits on a bull I will be stopping my DD and moving to new supplyer .Thank you all for the help

Well, my direct debit date has passed and it looks like I was in time to cancel it as no deduction has been made, either that or they weren't going to take one anyway.

Still no sign of the final bill though and also it seems that my final gas reading has been rejected by "the industry", although the new supplier has accepted it and will use it as the opening reading. I'm now concerned that there will be an issue with Tonik and the gas reading, but as they seem to have adopted radio silence it's difficult to tell what is happening. Looks like it may be several months before I see my £50 or so refunded, but at least it's not £100 as it would have been if they'd taken another payment. This sort of thing is becoming the norm in the energy sector though and I will probably go to a big six company next time. It'll cost more but at least the service should be better.

For what its worth, I'm just sharing my own experience post Tonik in terms of the transition from old supplier to new. My closing readings for gas and electricity were supplied by me online to the new supplier who acknowledged them and advised that they were now going through the validation procedure with a central data reference point. The electricity reading was accepted no problem, but the gas was substituted by a calculated reading provided by the data reference agency. I queried this, but my new supplier advised that as the difference in readings was within a "tolerance" level, the substituted reading would be used by the old and new suppliers. This was indeed the case! I actually ended up benefitting as my new tariff is cheaper and I started with a lower gas reading than the one which I read myself.
TBH I found this a tad irritating as it messed up my spreadsheet by having to use an incorrect calculated reading created by a third party. But hey ho, there are far worse things in life!
Glad to say life is now back to normal with an efficient supplier after the Tonik shambles.

OK, thanks for the info. That would be OK, as long as the new and old companies use the same reading. But I don’t understand why they have to reject my perfectly reasonable reading, especially when it is correct. It’s probably because of the warm weather, which means we use very little gas at all, and they think we are trying to get away with a lower reading. So, at the moment, we just don’t know what will happen and Tonik are completely unresponsive. But as you say, there are worse things to worry about, especially now, so I’ll sit tight and see what happens.

The reading was eventually accepted, so that was fine, and the final bill from Tonik confirmed a credit of £63.70. Still waiting for that though following several frustrating calls to their help desk. The struggle continues.
