Problem with Santander debit card

Right. I did. So why did you later on say you rang Santander to report a lost or stolen debit card?ega95jch said:
Please read the post that started the thread. I don't think I can put it any more clearly or succinctly.colsten said:So what was/is your problem? Was your card stolen, or did it just not work for some transactions?
Can I just add - there are currently hundreds of people who have a Santander mortgage or credit card that they are unable to pay, and people with nothing in their Santander current account, nothing coming into it anytime soon, and a family to feed. And you are kicking up a stink over Santander not attending to your problem which isn't actually a pressing problem as you found a temporary bypass yourself.2 -

Oh, do get over yourself. And brush up on your reading comprehension.colsten said:Right. I did. So why did you later on say you rang Santander to report a lost or stolen debit card?

It's not me who needs to get over themselves. An intermittently malfunctioning debit card is hardly a critical issue at present, particularly if you have other means to pay for your essentials.ega95jch said:

I can read perfectly well, too, but it seems you have forgotten what you posted, even though it's there for all to see.0 -
I read OP's posts as voicing his frustration at his/her inability to be able contact Santander, by any method at all, rather than that they haven't dealt with the immediate irritation of the card being declined
That Santander still allow customers to type & send secure messages when they have apparently withdrawn that communication method is extremely frustrating, and IMHO, worthy of a complaint. And I'm not one of this board's habitual, or even occasional 'complainers'1 -
Maybe lots of staff are unable to work due to having the virus, self isolating or having no child care.
These are difficult times for everybody.
My bank's chat facility wasn't working but I was able to contact them by PM on facebook.0 -

Thank you for this. I was beginning to doubt my own ability to communicate in simple written English.badger09 said:I read OP's posts as voicing his frustration at his/her inability to be able contact Santander, by any method at all, rather than that they haven't dealt with the immediate irritation of the card being declined

Of course it is annoying that the secure messaging facility isn't working at present but I assume (don't know for sure) that this is a temporary measure in response to the increased call volume which has been triggered by an event outside anyone's control. Secure messages need to be dealt with by people. Santander seem to have decided that all their available people will deal with phone calls of people who are desperate because they have no money to pay their mortgage, rent, bills or food. To me, it is absolutely obvious that the priority is not with people whose debit card has an intermittent fault and who have alternative means of payment. Anyone really desperate will have to join the queue of all the other desperate people. To expect to receive normal service in the midst of a pandemic is, at best, extremely selfish.badger09 said:I read OP's posts as voicing his frustration at his/her inability to be able contact Santander, by any method at all, rather than that they haven't dealt with the immediate irritation of the card being declined

I have Santander debit card which seems to be working at the moment in the supermarket etc, contactless and PIN entry, however it is getting refused on every online order I try to do. Enough money in account, card well in date and nothing wrong on the account when I check online. Only branch near me now open is over 6 miles away and apparently can't help, and dreading over a 5 hour wait on the phone as my son had the other day. Really reluctant to use credit card but will probably have to resort to this. Just worried that the debit card is going to be refused in shops soon. Anyone else have this problem?0

Sounds like you may have hit the contactless limit and to compound it entered the wrong pin. Which you can clear by going to a ATM and then PIN SERVICES which will have a option to unblock card.ega95jch said:My card has been declined at two different supermarkets (contactless, then message saying PIN blocked when tried to use manually). However, it's worked OK with buying bus and rail tickets contactlessly.
ATM & point of sale are separate parts. So you can do it.
It could also be a simple issue that there was a link issue between retailer & bank.
ALL banks are really suffering staff wise at the moment. As well as people ringing up for things they do not need to (make payments, that can be done online) Or even had some... Are you still open, and they have waited over a hour just to ask.....Life in the slow lane0 -
I know this is no real help but it may be that you will be unable to get through for some time. It may even get worse. If it were me, I would open a second bank account eg Starling or Monzo (smartphone) or even a second one at Santander (do it online) - you should then receive a debit card through the post and you can then xfer some money to this mew account by faster payments from Santander.
Not ideal I know but it may be a work around.
