University fees rebate

Hi,
My son has had to come home as all lectures cancelled. His exams are cancelled in the summer and officially there are no online lectures after Easter either. So he is essentially finished. He has a house that he has to pay for until the end of July so is one of the lucky ones as he can live at home for 'free'.
Does anyone know if students can claim a fee rebate?
He's volunteered for the NHS scheme and can probably get a supermarket job once he gets over the anxiety of the coronvirus

  • My son is in the same position. We have contacted his landlord and they are refusing to reduce the rent. My son also signed to stay in the house for his 3rd year and the landlord is saying they expect the rent to be paid all through this year too. So not only are getting exploited on University fees we are being exploited by the private landlords. Does anyone know if we have any recourse on either of these fronts?

We are in same boat, Daughter had to come back from spending year 3 in America, paid rent till end of May in America, was also working out there as student finance was half the amount of a full year and literally just covered her rent.  Think she has about £150 left to live on for the whole year. We had to pay her flight home as airline refused to bring forward, no refund of fees or accommodation, no job and as already signed house for year 4 rent will start 1st July back here.  They have held her job open back at Uni in the UK but as they are closed cannot work there. Nightmare as whilst my wages are ok hubby is on about 50% of his normal wage, student finance say no more help, uni have no idea.
