Proof of address do they even check it and how would they?

I've moved out of my flat to my parents house. Trying to get a BTL mortgage on the flat. Mortgage lender wants 2 proof of address (parents house). I just got a bank statement in the post, so that's one. I could scan the council tax or a utility bill and add my name to the printout. I could call, have them change the name and send a new bill out. But that would take awhile and if it's pointless...
Do banks phone councils or other banks to check proof of address or is it just they want to see something physical?

As above. If you fake it and they notice (and they may very well), you'll be blacklisted by that lender. Better to do it the slow way and get your name added to council tax or a utility bill. At least for the utility bill, you may be able to make the change online and request a new paper statement that way, in which case it would only take a couple of weeks.

If it's something which needs to be posted to you, then at the very least it proves that you've got access to the mail arriving at that address.

For a proof of address you can use you drivers licence and any type of utility bill and also bank statements, a letter from the bank or any other official body

How is National Hunter or anyone else going to obtain the name of a utility company customer without breaching GDPR ?
The whole thing is absurd.
A car hire company in Canada require me to produce an original Utility bill that has arrived in the post
If I cannot because I have paperless billing and print the PDF  out my self then what next ?
All this actually proves is that I have a high quality printer

For this rental you will also need one original form of proof of address. This must be an original document issued to you by post and feature the same address as on your driver’s licence.

The following rules apply:

a) It must be a utility bill (gas, electric, water use bill etc.).

b) It must be dated within 8 weeks of date of hire.

Please note that mobile phone bills, council tax bills, electronic bills (such as emails and online statements) or their printouts will not be accepted.

192.com has extensive records of who lives where & when. And other sources.  Of course the big lenders will check - if only to avoid fraud.  Last mortgage I got had huge problem when broker got one character wrong of my post code, lender said he's lying, deal off.
