Travel Republic Refund - Final balance payment due soon

We are due to go on holiday on the 22nd May, accommodation booked with Travel Republic. Our balance due to be paid on the 9th May. To date I have only paid the minimum deposit. We have tried to cancel unsuccessfully via the website and this appears to be the only way to cancel at the moment, as they will only take calls it your holiday is in the next 14 days. We are worried that if we do not cancel they will take our money and refuse a refund. This is the impression I am getting from various forums.
Reading the t&cs it states that failure to pay the full amount by the due date could be seen as a cancellation.
Are we able to stop them collecting the final payment? Booked on Credit Card.

Do you have travel insurance in place? also if you cancel do you lose your deposit, why not wait till nearer the 9th May as TR might cancel your holiday and refund your money1

If you have paid a low deposit you will probably need to pay the remainder of the standard deposit if you cancel.
from the main MSE articleYou'll need to weigh up the risk based on what you've paid so far and what you've yet to pay, but this is likely to be a bad idea.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) warns if you're paying in instalments for a holiday and stop paying because you fear your holiday will be cancelled or you don't want to go, you are effectively cancelling the booking.
This means that if the booking is subsequently cancelled by the operator you won't get your money back, whereas if you continue to pay and it's then cancelled, you would get a refund.

Thank you
Yes, we do have travel insurance, however, from what I have read Travel Republic are now offering a credit note/voucher towards a rebooking in the next 6 months. We have to date only paid a £15 deposit.
