Hi. I am a commercial cleaner working for a well known company. I have 9 sites which I clean. After the lock down announcement on Monday some of my places are staying open. I was so confused wether I was still to go to work because nowhere on the list of key workers does it say cleaners: although it did say you could go to work if you couldn’t work from home, which I can’t: but on gmb this morning doctor Hillary said people should cancel cleaners: the places that are remaining open are key workers. One site is where hospital beds go to be sanatised so that’s key worker: another is vending machines and they are classed as key workers because they are filling hospitals: somewhere else supplies forklifts, which supply to warehouses related to food and medical supplies: so they need to stay open to do work. So what my boss has explained is that because they are key workers, the places need to be open and need a clean environment. But nowhere on the list does it say cleaners: id
say we are important at the minute and it’s not like I’m going to vaccume somebodies living room! Am I ok to be going to work ?? I’m just scared incase something gets said or police ask me: I’m walking to one place as it’s near by, one place I have to get a bus too. And another there is another cleaner and she picks me up and it’s a 2 minute drive but it’s a 25 min walk so can’t really walk it.
