Between positions

I gave my notice in at my current position as I was offered a new position after an interview for a different company. I have an email to say what my pay and start date etc is but I did not receive a contract in time. The new company are saying they won’t give me a start date now as I will be working on a school and they are not open. I can’t claim money from anyone now?

Probs not for a considerable period of time; the OP made themselves voluntarily unemployed.

Lesson to learn here is never give up an existing job until you have secured a new one, unless you are prepared to be unemployed .

You need to take legal advice, as the evidence you have of a start date, rate of pay, etc may itself consititute a legally binding contract of employment.

Yes, seek legal advice about your position regarding the cancelled offer.

Have you reached your end date at your old job yet? It's worth writing them a letter asap asking to withdraw your notice and whether they will consider agreeing to that. Worth a shot. I'd be doing anything I can to keep my old job in this situation.
