Furlough

I'm working as a cleaner at a school that is still open. Not classed as a key worker. Need to work for bills etc. But hours have been changed quite a lot and can't meet them due to childcare. I have tried. Would I be eligible to ask for furlough?

Not likely to be an option for you.
What changes were made - were your hours reduced or just set to times you cannot work?
As long as the changes were made legitimately and in accordance with your contract then I'm not sure what you can do apart from to tell them your situation and ask for a workable arrangement.0 -
Contracted hours were 4-7.30pm and now 12.30-4pm0

You'll need to discuss with your employer about your difficulties and what options they have. Their hands might be tied though as it could be a stipulation from the client (the school) that it needs to be cleaned during the day time.
If that renders you unable to work because you have needs as a parent then make that clear to them.
If there is anything about your employment contract that sets out the hours that you can work then bring that into the discussion with you.0 -
If I can't continue to work due to this will I be able to claim universal credit? I'm worried they'll reject me if it looks like I voluntarily gave up working, which I'm not. My parents are old and isolating and can't help look after them0
