Travel credit or refund?

Hi All,
I booked a backpacking trip using STA Travel who consequently used STRAY as the agent in the Far East. In total I was away for 3 weeks of a 4 month trip. I got one of the last flights back to the UK last week as the FO were urging all British ciitzens to return to the UK. STRAY also stopped their tours a few days before I left.
I have been told by STRAY that they will give a credit back. I would rather my money!
1. Isnt my contract with STA Travel? I paid ALL of the trip costs to STA.
2. If Stray go out of business isn't it the role of STA travel to provide another agent?
At a push I will take a credit but what if BOTH STA and STRAY go out of business? I have travel insurance.
STRAY have already told me that they don't give money back. Just credits. Are they legally obliged using STA to pass the money back to me.
