Screws

I've got a bucketful of assorted screws which I search through for something of the right length when I'm doing a bit of DIY.
I've just noticed in a Screwfix catalogue that there's different screws for wood, masonry and MDF. How do you tell the difference? Will it matter if I've used wood screws in a wall?

If you've got the Screwfix catalogue it will tell you on pages 10 and 11. Wood screws into a wall should be OK as long as you use the right wallplug and the wall is dry. If it's damp use stainless steel screws.0
