Work and wage problems

Hi my son works as an apprentice mechanic, on Saturday he got sent home because he had a slight cough.
He hasn't got a cough as he was eating Doritos and one caught his throat. Once it was gone it was fine. He explained this but was told to stay at home.
Anyway they have told him he will get ssp for two weeks, not sure what the actual wages situation will be at the moment, wether he gets paid or furloughed. But if he was off for symptoms he should only be off for 7 days so it seems he will be incorrectly/underpaid for a week. Are they wrong?
