Train cancelled - alternatives very expensive.

Hi all!
Had a train booked on Saturday with Trainline for a direct train. They have now cancelled the train and are now offering free changes, however instead of a £17 original ticket, the alternatives are £70+ and longer with more changes. Is there anything I can do, or just swallow the charge? (They are happy to refund the original ticket price).
NB: I am an essential NHS worker so need to make the journey.
Any advice appreciated!

Other than appealing to their sense of goodwill, no. I hope they feel able to help you out.0

Trainline haven't cancelled the train. The train operator have.
If it's a UK train then the rules usually mean that if a train you have an Advance ticket for is cancelled, you can use that advance ticket for another train on the same route.
Who operates the train? Check their website. I think all the rail operators are being very flexible at this time.0 -
+1 to bagand96 response. I also suspect if you carry and show your NHS employment ID and explain the situation to any ticket inspector, you would not have any issues (at least IMO).0

If its a work journey for the NHS, surely they are paying for it anyway?0
