New job just before lockdown

Hi ,
I was supposed to start a new job on 23rd March,- contract received and signed - 1 week training commencing 23rd March before going live in showroom. Appropriate notice given in at previous job.
Company informed me 19th March that training is postponed until further notice, due to the corona virus.
I have had no communication since. Am I able to claim Furlough payment as have no money coming in?
If so, does the company need to know before I apply- unable to contact anyone.

You cannot claim furlough payment. It is the employer who decides whether to furlough employees and whether or not to access the Job Retention Scheme. The employee has no control over this,
your employer has contractual obligations to you but enforcing them at this time may be difficult.
if necessary look at claiming look at Universal Credit. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/ There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculatorsInformation I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1
