O/S Daily Thursday 26 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cold and frosty start to the day here again.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 still in his pit, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy. I'm now on days' off - I should be working Saturday but am waiting to hear if that's happening or not.
Dinner last night was hot new potatoes, scotch egg, pork pie, ham, breaded chicken portions, HM roasted veg tart, salad and coleslaw. Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg, chips/LO new potatoes etc. Working hard to just use what we have and not go out to buy anything extra. I will have to shop tomorrow though. I'll see how the weather is later and hope to get out to have a walk on my own - or if anyone needs anything I'll combine that with a walk. I have a wash load done, I'm going to try to get it line dried if possible.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning folks.I've no idea what it's like outside though there's not any bright sunshine pouring in through the window so I'm guessing dull and wet. After a bit of discussion yesterday it's been decided that DM's cleaner will be coming this morning. DM will not see her and will keep her door closed. Apart from the dining room issue it's probable that the Cleaner's day job has been stopped so she'll appreciate the money.Apart from that there's no plans here. My hopes for a day trip home are on ice, it would be rash to drive 200 miles when on 'lockdown'.Life maybe dull but it's still living!
My thoughts are with the poorlies and the sad, things will get better. Happy Thursday to all. ❤️19 -
Morning
Groundhog day again where I will be busy doing nothing working the whole day through trying to find lots of things not to do.....have that as a brain worm for the day5am seems to be sticking as normal wake up time ...great just makes the day longer. Two businesses I am close to have given up the ghost and gone under. Most of my work was contracted to a large and very successful training company which ceased trading unable to manage through goodness knows how long until normality returns so that's me in trouble too, and my hairdressing salon has gone under after 20 years of making us all feel wonderful with hair and nails. So sad these were both successful businesses goodness knows how many others we will lose. It will be a very different world post virus
Anyway todays exciting plans are to enjoy the weather again gardening desperately in need but its not possible for me yet so book and a sun chair then. Pasta with bacon and mushroom last night so thats me out of pasta bar a portion or two of spaghetti now and no surprise supermarkets are out. Bit left over so thats brekky sorted then today ...who knows.....freezer surprise I guess.
Hope everyone has a good day and is staying safe

Morning All
TA, Sparkle is just lovely, I can see why you fell in love with her.
Pleased to hear that your friend is recovering dumpling.
It's quite grey this morning, not sure if I will get to the allotment or not. If I do it's only to plant more onions so should only take half an hour or so. I really must get on and plant seeds here or there'll be no peas or beans!
I was totally wiped out last night and couldn't settle to anything, slept surprisingly well but did wake up at 5.30! I have a list of jobs to do here and also brought some work home with me so can get on with that whilst watching mindless TV.
Stay safe everyone and take care. XX17 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Sorry GERS but we have sunshine and it's forecast to remain with us all day. Though not quite as warm as yesterday.
I have just had a panic stricken cat, with me equally so! She weaves in and out of the vertical blinds to find the best vantage point and then turned round and got the beady things at the bottom wrapped round her neck. The more she panicked the tighter they got with more bead strings joining in!! I had visions of cat and blinds crashing to the floor! I got cat free but the blinds now look a bit worse for wear! Drama over!
Yesterday proved to be yet another aimlessly trailing about day, depressed by the news and I suppose hoping, without much hope, for a miracle. I am passing time doing stupid needless things whilst the spring cleaning still awaits. I seem to have got in a rut that I can't get out of. DS asked if I wanted him to come up this afternoon and sit in the back garden with me for a bit of company, obviously at least 2 metres apart. He wouldn't have to come through the house, just up the side of the garage. I'm sure this should be ok shouldn't it? After 11 days in solitary confinement I think the lack of company is getting to me now.
I hope you all manage to have a good day despite everything with everybody keeping well. DUMPLING that was such good news about Jess. BELLA thinking of you and your DD and hope she can stay safe. ((HUGS)) for everybody in abundance and take care xx

Good morning, fine and dry here again.I'm having trouble signing in at the moment. When the big changeover happened I had no trouble at all, but now I do, strange.Bella I was so sorry to hear about your DD2, what a worry for all of you.Nels, glad to see you back, I had a bit of a wobble the other day but gave myself a virtual kick up the arris, like you gave yourself a shakedown. I laughed at "2020 can go and do one", true tho.We were outside for most of yesterday, did the garden and backyard, and it looks much better. I scrubbed the garden path with a strong soap powder solution to get rid of the algae, it worked and looks fine.As it's fine today I'll put some washing in, and there are other jobs as usual.Dumpling, I'm glad your friend's daughter is home, hope she makes a good recoveryEveryone in my family is ok, well nobody has told me they are not ok, so I hope it stays that way. Thinking of everyone, take care folks17

Good morning, another bright day but there has been a hard frost and I'm cold.
Bella, thinking about your daughter, people are having to make awful decisions.
TA, Sparkle is lovely.
I did love the gasmask pics, thank you.
Well I got the kitchen windows done and monna no I failed to plummet. I don't need to stand on the worksurfaces, just kneel and really I just wanted to stop them being greasy. They aren't going to look good, I think the seal between the panes h as gone Kaput. Today, attack dining room and do utterly pointless ironing. I always feel virtuous after ironing things since I hate it. So I'm only doing it for the virtuous glow.
Once it warms up I will probably go a-weeding. All my daffs and crocus are bowed down with frost, poor things. The birds are having a nice time on their table, and on the ground around it where the messy squirrels have knocked food.
Hope everyone's day is good or if not actually good, reasonable.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Good morning all,
No run this morning - it's a day off...well sort of. The plans are to crack on with the gardens. I started on the front yesterday when it was quiet then moved on to the back during the afternoon. Two black bags of weeds and prunings collected but still a lot to do. I really want to cut the grass today and the HT has asked if he can clean the patio. We need to find his oldest clothes first before I let him loose on that one.
I made brownies yesterday so the cake tin is full. Some days it feels as if we are just marking time from one meal to the next but I'm thinking that it's good to stick to a routine so we're mostly having meals at our normal times. We did break the cat yesterday as well. She was out in the back with me for most of the afternoon and was fast asleep and snoring on the HTs bed by 6pm.
Take care all of you13 -
Morning all
Thank you for yesterday and your kind thoughts it really helped I just wanted to say she is doing no more or less than many other nurses and key workers and I thank them all someone else put a statement up from a cancer nurse elsewhere and it could have been written by DD2 so heartbreaking I think yesterday was feeling like a mama bear day where all i wanted to do was protect my little cubs but i know in reality I can't and that's the bit that hurts anyway after 2 long days she is onto 2 night shifts so i have her for a few hours today she has taken Dolly out this morning for some fresh air
Right onwards n upwards today i will be tidying my wardrobe I know things are desperate when thats all i have left to do
Dumpling wonderful news glad she is home x
Nels hopefully the business will restart when all this has come to an end and we all remember to buy british and local
TA what a fright with sparkle glad she is ok I cant see why your son shouldn't see you it seems you would be taking all the prescribed steps
AoD I am not feeling as virtuous as you and the ironing pile sits there still seems a bit pointless to do as we aren't going anywhere to be fair any excuse will do as i hate doing it
Gers i would have thought you could go home as you are in your car alone not using public transport and if i remember rightly collecting food from the freezer and thus not shopping in a supermarket but these rules are quite ambiguous we just try our best
Dinner tonight sausage n mash
Have a great day whatever you are up to and stay safe xx

Morning all. Seems all the lunatics who escaped last night are back in the asylum........ well bar one..... Na, Na, Na, Na, Na !Thanks for that escapism, made me giggle and fair lifted my spirits I can tell you. Unfortunately one of Mr Fix It's old work friends has passed away from Prostrate cancer, that news saddened and scared Mr Fix It a bit. He's soldiering on, on the face of it anyway, as they used to swap stories about the cancer.Today we were going a-lumberjcking but Mr Fix It has a swollen knee, so we will cut up the tree that's already down and go from there. I don't want him housebound because we pushed his knee too hard as well. I have plenty of things to occupy us although nothing seems to be getting done and I have no idea why, I have a list as long as my arm.I rang Dad last night, he had finished off a week of corned beef stew and decided to have a jacket potato with tuna last night. He opened the tuna but it was off..... BB date 2011
So much for him having lots of tins in the cupboard, I wonder what other ones are OOD. I have ordered some food for him on my online shop, but as he didn't know what he wanted he will have to have what I ordered and can hopefully get. I won't let him starve and he eats mostly everything, he's just not fussed about rice.
We had a long winded text from O Reach this morning saying they won't be able fix the phone or internet if it breaks down. Sorry can't find the "really angry" smilie. I thought they were a utility and very much needed, especially for people like my Dad. Rant over for the day, well morning anyway.Dumpling lovely to hear that Jesse is home. I hope she goes from strength to strength.Nelski thanks, I now have that ear worm too ! Along with " Always look on the bright side of life ", sorry I've forgotten who on here started that oneHope everyone has a goodish day and stays safe.Take care all. Hugs to everyone.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently15 -
NAN - according to this (clicky thing) Openreach will still sort out the elderly and vulnerable if their connection goes down.It means work to switch customers between suppliers will not be done if it requires engineers to enter a customer's house or flat.
But exceptions will be made for "vulnerable" users such as the elderly.
In addition, those who lack access to either a broadband or telephone connection, may still be served.
In these cases, the firm's engineers will be provided with protective equipment to reduce the risk of catching and spreading the virus.
