Seems they are now considered an essential service too, amongst reports supermarkets are running out of beer.

Interesting, as alcohol kills far more people than coronavirus ever will (about 3 million a year every year worldwide).0

I find this amusing as well, but we must understand we live in the society we live in. Keeping bottle shops open might be necessary for public order and other untold (em medical) reasons.
I think it's just fallen in to a grey area that needs straight advice. Many bottle-shops already operate behind a glass wall and could put in place measures to restrict the 2m distance rule, so therefore why penalise an otherwise functional and safe business?
Plus (cough) taxes (cough) tariffs (cough) need to be collected (cough)(cough)0 -
Didnt even think they closed around here tbh.1

I suppose it's better than smoking during a respiratory infection pandemic.

That point is definitely lost on my neighbour

I hope sales of Allen Carr's Easy Way to stop smoking are booming. Give one to your neìghbour for Christmas.

What's worse is he's the type that moans about all the things government isn't doing right to protect him but blazes through 700 smokes a day.0

Get him the book for Christmas then, but don't buy it too soon though, just in case...0

I don't recall seeing any alcohol specific off-licences in my area (not that I've been looking specifically)7Phil said:What's worse is he's the type that moans about all the things government isn't doing right to protect him but blazes through 700 smokes a day.
Is that a typo? Or just exaggeration?0 -
Yes and no.Jeremy535897 said:Interesting, as alcohol kills far more people than coronavirus ever will (about 3 million a year every year worldwide).
Ultimately those 3 million are going to die of something, even if they all became teetotal. If you are saying it reduces life expectancy by three years, can you image what a state the economy would be in if it suddenly went up by that amount! Many of them will still die of something that needs large amounts of health resources to treat so I get more than a little cynical at some of these so called savings.0
