Handed notice in before covid
I handed my notice in with no job lined up at the end of Jan, due to no longer able to work with someone within the business. Now I am in a situation where I had job interviews lined up and obviously they are not going to happen, thus no job, is there any options furlough or unemployment benefits. This really couldn't have come at a worst time any help greatly appreciated x

Universal Credit. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

If you are still serving your notice you could always ask your employer whether they are prepared to retract your notice and continue you as a furloughed employee on 80% pay. They would be under no obligation to do so but would be worth asking.0

That is not what the scheme is for. I doubt any company would do that as it is potential fraud, claiming the money when they have no intention of keeping the person on once the crisis has finished.
The OP could ask to withdraw the notice and carry on working as normal but that would be up to the company.

Try the supermarkets - they are crying out for new employees to help keep the shelves stocked.Luna2019 said:Hi

Farmers are also looking for staff soon. Heard of a local farmer saying they were looking now for strawberry pickers for the upcoming season that will start very soon.

And I doubt HMRC will ever disentangle the mess that will ensue from these claims. They're incapable of acting on companies perpetrating fraud totalling tens of millions of pounds - my husband gave up on being a confidential informer after risking himself on their behalf for several years and providing them with evidence, documentary photographic and audio.sharpe106 said:LilElvis said:If you are still serving your notice you could always ask your employer whether they are prepared to retract your notice and continue you as a furloughed employee on 80% pay. Hi Luna2019,
My daughter is in a similar situation to yourself. She served her notice at her previous employment and finished last Friday, 20th of March. She should have started this Monday, the 23rd, at a new job. Unfortunately the company closed all their stores over the weekend. The manager has informed her that she is not on the payroll and basically the new role now doesn't exist. She has been told that the Furlough system can't be applied for her because the previous employer is still conducting business and her position has been filled. I'm wondering what is the best course of action for her, she is a single parent, in rented accommodation with 3 schoolchildren. Any advice anyone???0 -
