Is it okay to change suppliers at this time?

As I'm spending a lot of time at home at the moment for obvious reasons, I thought I'd try the MSE energy club comparison to see if I can save any money, as my current tariff ends in July.

I can potentially save £300 a year if I switch from npower to British Gas, but I was wondering if this was an appropriate time to switch suppliers? What I mean by this is could anything potentially go wrong when changing suppliers? I don't want to be left with no gas or electricity!

There's no way you'll be left without gas or electricity. If for whatever reason you need to speak with someone at either of the suppliers then you'd probably struggle at the moment.

Just make sure your savings are real .
Understand that comparisons have to be based upon the expensive standard tariff not your current tariff .
EG most i can save is £40 pa based upon my usage and the difference in the unit costs and standing charges .A comparison based upon standard charges will show a much higher ( not real ) saving .

Look at the annual cost on a comparison site, not the savings, and compare that with the total of the last year's bills.
