Barclays claiming I missed deadline, but did I?

I made a claim for my Egg card to Barclays in 2016. I got a letter back saying they had no record of my account.
I phoned them at the time, spoke to someone who found my account and told me to wait for another letter.
Nothing arrived, I didn't chase. Come October 2019, I decide to follow this up. Speak to Barclays who now claim they have no record of letter or conversation or claim from 2016. They put it through as a new claim.
January 2020 I receive a letter, this time acknowledging the letter of 2016 and acknowledging my account, but claiming as I didn't complain in 2016, this claim expired and they are treating my claim as anew one, past the deadline. Therefore they rejected the claim and suggested I go to the ombudsman if I am not happy.
So, do I have a case or should I drop it?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm keen to claim, but only if I have a strong enough claim...0

It's not claiming, it's complaining. What did the second letter say, and did the first letter say they couldn't uphold the comlaint because there was no info or something along those lines..And have you received a copy yet?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

The key is what the 2016 letter says.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.1
