Redundancy announced BEFORE Covid-19

My job was put at risk October 2019. All staff except me left in December 2019 and received their payouts. The company is a large one. They were going to keep one person on the books until they reached 50 to allow them to take their pension if they wished to (pension age started at 50 for the employee, as they had an older contract).

I stayed on to transfer knowledge to the new department as all skills and knowledge had been lost. This included a 7 hour round trip from my home to the new office, although they did pay for overnight stays at hotels to allow for me to work without being exhausted. On March 4th 2020, I was told I was being made redundant on 31st March 2020.

My frustration is that in this crisis, I will not find a job with the income I was earning for potentially a number of months. I am happy to help and take on temp roles with supermarkets etc as bringing in some money is better than nothing. However, all the staff who left in December 2019 have more chance of being protected by the government "up to 80% pay" announcement, are key workers now, or can work from home, whereas I will not have these options.

Do I have any rights to ask the company to do anything for me? I emailed HR yesterday morning but no response as of yet.

Thank you and apologies if the information is already covered in another post.

I imagine you were grateful in December 2019 to be the one left with a job. No doubt it was the best option at the time. We all do things that, with hindsight, we would change. I guess you will get some redundancy, depending on length of service and your contract of employment. Check your eligibility for universal credit and look for another job. You knew this was going to happen sooner or later.
