Shop or no shop... Ebay?

I've been reducing my listing for some time and only now do I literally have about 10 items listed on ebay compared to about 180 last month and then 300 or so before this. I've been limiting items as I'm going in a different direction so will soon start listing new items again but might only list say 20 or 30 items for the next 1 or 2 months once the current situation has changed. I will also list auctions at the same time but most listing will be BIN's. Is it worth closing my current shop but continue to list items as a business seller without a shop? I've seen a lot of posts regarding people closing shops and seeing no change in sales. What are the pros and cons and given the current situation we are in is it worth closing or just keep going with paying the current shop fees even though I'm not really selling a lot at all and currently have my shop on holiday due to the corona virus so have ebay fees to pay with no sales for the foreseeable future.

From memory the break even point for a basic shop is 85 listings,if you list more than that a month then a shop is cheaper. I’m working from memory though so it’s best to check.

a basic shop with VAT is £30 a month, a business pays 35p listing fee per item .

For me the benefit of a shop is the ability to use holiday settings,  In normal times I have a fair few holidays and also a fair few long hour contracts and being able to turn off my listings saves me a lot of stress. However, if sales don’t pick up I may consider running my BIN listings down to 40~50 listings and cancelling my shop subscription.

  • Thanks for your reply. If I do decide to close, which I think I will now as might just create auction listing when I start back up, is it too late to close now so as not to be charged on the next invoice after this month?

That I don't know, not even ebay can provide an answer that makes sense. They appear to charge for any part of a used month- but no one can agree what 'month' is being charged for and when.

Just remember that you will be paying insertion fees which, as above, are not cheap .
