Temporary Contract staff help

Please could anyone advise?
I have been employed with my employer for 18 month under a temporary contract, this was initial a 6 month contract but extended and the last I was advised that I was employed until at least September 2020. Yesterday I was advised that my contract would end pretty much immediately due to COVID-19. I have been advised that once things get back to normal they ma invite me back to work again. Could anyone advise if I would be entitled to the Government protection scheme, with being on a temporary contact at all, I am only getting vague answers from my employers HR department.

It's not a case of you being entitled or not. The option is open to all businesses, it's entirely up to them to take advantage of the retention scheme, whether this is something you employer wants to do is up to them. As yet there are no firm details for employers to start this process so it's no wonder that your HR dept don;t know much either.1
