Leaving home empty

I am in Spain and cannot get back to the UK. My house insurance in the UK only allows me to leave it empty for 60 days. I think I will exceed this do you know how the insurers will treat this. I also have travel insurance which gives cover for 60 days - same problem

I have a similar situation. House is now unoccupied as I have moved home with my parents due to the Coronavirus. With the lockdown for 3 months, how does this affect my house insurance?0

Both - you should tell your insurer(s). They may just note what you have told them or may make an extra charge. Either way you should still be covered. If you dont tell them you may not be.In my case where the holiday has been delayed by Coronavirus the travel insurance provider has extended the period of the insurance at no extra charge.1

To both. Does anybody else have keys to the property and can they check that the place is OK? If needs be is there a family member who could move in temporarily?

My mothers house was empty for a long period, I told the insurance and cover continued but with some conditions, in our case electrical devices had to be unplugged, heating set to a minimum and an inspection visit made weekly.
Best to inform the insurer or cover could be invalidated.0 -
We have no other family members in the area and I am currently 75 miles away with government restrictions on travel.TELLIT01 said:To both. Does anybody else have keys to the property and can they check that the place is OK? If needs be is there a family member who could move in temporarily?0 -
Am in same boat. Went to my mothers house end of January to do some work expecting to take 3 or 4 weeks, now cannot go home (300+ miles), not worth the risk of trying in case of breakdown or puncture. My spare key was with a neighbour who passed away recently so no one checking, although other neighbours might notice if anything obvious happened at the front of the house, rear gate bolted inside. No one who could move in temporarily either. Thankfully, no room in kennels so dog is with me and not costing me a fortune

That trip could be regarded as essential. If you drive there and back. Staying overnight. You wouldn't come in contact with anybody. Roads are quiet .nxdmsandkaskdjaqd said:
