Furloughed worker

I’m on a zero hour contract and my last five years wages have averaged 15000 pounds a year.There is not much work January, February and March so I take unpaid leave . I work for a large events catering company. All our events that I usually work at have been cancelled. I have now no work for possibly the next three months and have been told no pay will be paid to me ,under the new government help to furloughed workers benefits,as I earned zero in February whilst on unpaid holiday,which I was happy to do and my employer was happy for me to do . I’m not entitled to any benefits . I’m 58 have never been unemployed or claimed benefits in my life . To say I am angry and bitter is an understatement and after this don’t think I will have the stomach to return to work and pay tax .

Whilst that is understandable unfortunately no system can possibly protect us all from being hurt by an event of this magnitude.
