In between jobs

I have resigned from my previous company and agreed to leave early then the 3 months notice period.  I am not due to start my new role until 20th April.  I have signed a contract etc but they have requested if I could delay my start for 3 months.  I have said no but are my rights if this gets enforced?

It is an employment law question and will depend on what your contract of employment says.
  • I am in the same position here.
I've requested for my previous employer to keep me on the books for furlough and they have refused as:
"I have looked into things (had to run this past legal) and unfortunately this isn’t something we are able to do. Your termination date was varied by consent and if we were to change it now there is risk that it may come across as contrived to get you a specific benefit"
And my new employer, who is an American company looking to expand to the UK (I'm employee number 2), has asked me to delay start date for three months and have frozen employment until then as they've had to freeze pay of a 1/3 of workload.
How could i qualify for furlough v job seekers?
    Thanks!

The previous employer is probably right. The new employer is not a UK employer (unless you will be employed through a UK subsidiary) and won't qualify for the job retention scheme.
