Expedia Credit card Travel Insurance...which way to go help please

Good morning everyone, I was due to fly to Amsterdam Friday morning taking my best friend for her 40th birthday.  I booked the hotel and flights via expedia (first time using them) the flight out has been cancelled and the hotel was a non refundable/no changes room as we fully expected to be going (I know, always book free cancellation).  The thing is if we didn't go now we couldn't go in the future due to personal circumstances.  I contacted the hotel via expedia and explained why we cant go in the future and they have agreed to refund the booking, but they said I have to do this via expedia.  I can't cancel via expedia online I just keep getting a message that I need to contact their customer support which you can't get through to currently on hold for an hour (the sax music is very annoying).  I have annual worldwide travel insurance and I booked it all on a credit card...what is the best thing to do? I have searched this and others who have used chargeback have been contacted via debt collection agencies sent from expedia.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
