I’m scared and want to self isolate

I’m a paint sprayer for a body shop, I want to self isolate because my son has chest issues. Because government haven’t told my employer to shut I’m not eligible for the 80% wage scheme. I would be offered SSP(£93) if I do this. The problem I have is that this wouldn’t even cover food for my family (we have seven children/so a tenner a week each!) plus all the bills /DD that won’t defer. Do I have the right to get the 80% wage If I needed to self isolate ? Thanks

No you do not the 80% wage is to keep people in employment whos job would be lost, not to be used as sick pay. As they are still open for business and still need you then they can not claim the money from the government.

No. The 80% furlough is for businesses that will otherwise close or reduce staff due to the virus causing a loss of business.
It does not cover people that need to self-isolate. Keep watching the news for any changes in advice. Check with your employer if they have to reduce their staff because of loss of work.
If you need to self-isolate while your work is still running (and is not ordered to close by the govt) then you can only get SSP.1 -
Look at Universal Credit. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
I agree with Calcotti. I am not sure why you would get SSP as you are not sick. See https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19/covid-19-guidance-for-employees#sick-pay
