Furloughed to care for children

My wife is a key worker and I need to stay at home to care for our 4 children. My employer is a large company and would prefer I try and work from home which is impossible. I have asked to be furloughed but they don’t even want to look into it. Any help?

The idea of being furloughed is to help protect the economy and jobs, not to make people’s life easier. The company will not look into as they are not intending to lay you of so they would not be able to claim the money.
