I’m a agency hca they say we only get ssp

I work as a agency key worker working with vulnerable high-risk adults as a hca/support worker . We got an email today saying if we get sick we only get ssp . Should we not be entitled to 80% of our wages . feels almost Under respected for the risk we are putting ourself in for a company that doesn’t seem to care. I no colleagues already off due to corona and they have been told the same . Anyone know where we stand

You are mixing up two completely differently things.
If you are sick you are entitled to sick pay.
if an employer is going to need to make people redundant as a result of coronavirus they can instead designate them furloughed employees and apply to the government for support to pay 80% of their wages. This is to avoid employers going bust.

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • I was an agency worker for British Airways and was laid off on Monday Due to the effects of the corona virus. I was on full time hours. I contacted my agency who said that because we are agency and not an employee that I wasn’t entitled to the 80% pay govt scheme. Can someone shed some light on this?
