Are we been ripped off

Options
Hi back in december we joined scottish power through money supermarket comparison site, it was £81 a month for dual fuel with monthly payments. We live In a small 3 bedroom house, anyways after 3 months scottish power was asking for £485 saying that is what we had used, so we rang and the person we spoke to said our meters were going round to quick dont pay nothing until we get an engineer, no engineer turned up rang them no staff knows nothing about this and were cut of 6 times from phone call. So we left it and we got a phonecall from them 1 month later and they said they would send an engineer out the next day he did turn up and he said looking at your meters they have taken the readings as been a new meter( they were installed 2 month before going with scottish power) and looking at smart meter readings we using average. 2 weeks later received a bill for £601 . My question is what can we do scottish power dont listen have we got the right to move provider so our bill aren't ridiculous every month

Make sure that the serial number on the meters is the same as that on the bills.  Make sure the gas meter is using the same uints on the bills as on the meter, cubic feet (ft3) or cubic metres (m3).  If it's a gas meter with a battery and LCD display, make sure it's not showing 'b' which means a failing battery.
You haven't said whether your bills use actual readings or estimates, nor whether the high readings are gas, electricity or both.  You need solid facts to get anywhere, just saying the bills are too expensive won't get you very far.  Also, make sure you understand how direct debits work.
If you owe £601 you won't be able to move to a different company. but you do need to make sure you are on the cheapest SP tariff for your measured kWh usage.
