Shielding/isolation

My husband's employer verbally instructed him to stay at home from yesterday Monday 23/03/20 for 12 weeks as he has low immunity due to a blood disorder and no spleen. We were led to believe he would get the 80% pay payment whilst he was off, now he has been told all he will get is ssp. Where do we stand?

It is for employers to choose to use the coronavirus job retention scheme or not. If the "led to believe" is oral with no independent witness, I suspect it means nothing, but I am not a lawyer. I doubt though that you would have the desire to pursue them in tribunals or courts.1

the Job Retention Scheme is available for furloughed employees. He is not being furloughed, he’s being sent home for his safety
If your household income is now look at Universal Credit. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculatorsInformation I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
The furlough is to protect jobs not to protect people. It is there for companies to access instead of laying people off. It is not meant to be used instead of sick pay. The job is still avaliable(somebody else will be doing it) so they can not claim the pay from the governemnt.

Hi I’m a 59 yr old diabetic who lives alone, is self isolating and with no family nearby. I’m part of the vulnerable group who’ve been advised to be extra careful (but not according to Sainsbury’s) although not in the shielding group but am finding it practically impossible to order an online delivery of food. Any suggestions? As I moved recently to take up a new job I don’t have any friends in the area either!0
