Video chat apps or sites

I wish to use video chat with my laptop web camera rather than use my mobile with family.
Tried the following:

Skype: None if us could see each other, even though my side for example could see the thumbnail of myself.

Google hangout: Saw each other, however my end seeing them, the video froze but could talk, they said they could see me clearly.  After a while could see them moving but the quality was rubbish, settings shows 360.

Any other ideas on any others? I have  a Windows laptop.  Download speed is around 25-30 Mps.

I have seen other web cams clear as day, so don't think speed is the issue.  I watch all my TV streaming and video game online, without any issues.

facebook messenger and zoom are a few others you can try. 
Might be worth trying again with skype or hangouts and taking a screenshot then posting looking for more specific help as both of them should do the job okay.

on Skype you can do a test for sound and video,did u try that.

The world + dog use either Zoom or Microsoft Teams. My Oh uses the free Zoom for video meeting between a group of friends that used to meet in person. It is exceptionally easy to install and use, it works well on both a Windows 10 laptop and a mobile phone. Both were used at “peak” time via a 4G mobile phone network that typo runs a max of around 27Mb/s download and 4Mb/s upload (measured).
