     Let's make it simple.
    Have you paid in full for the original date?
    If you do not want one of the offered alternative dates have they offered you a  refund?

    Assumptions are the mother of all #£#@ ups but I'm assuming that if the couple doesn't want one of the 'free' dates, then they have been told that they have to pay in full for their preferred date.

    In regards to the refund, again I assume that the couple have been told to claim on their insurance....how the insurance company would view that is anyone's guess, but I doubt it would go down well.

    This is correct. Apologies everyone, I'm unsure where I'm not being clear (accept it's my fault though!). 
    We didn't want the 'free' dates, and have been told to pay in full again (for the room hire) for our preferred date.
    To clarify we have not paid the full balance, only the room hire to date. So, they want us to pay that room hire again, at full price for the privilege of choosing our date.
