Thank you everyone. I am surprised I haven't thought about it myself! I always buy flour directly from a mill, milk, meat, eggs, and vegetables from local (15miles) farms... Naturally, I should have thought of buying cheese from a creamery! Sadly our local cheesemakers (Fowlers) don't seem to sell to general public.
Do a check on that. A lot of local small places who catered for the catering trade have had to move very quickly to selling to the public. Even our local creamery have opened up vacancies for milkmen which they never had to bother with before
I've double-checked it. They used to have a local market stall, but mainly sell to butchers and farm shops. Their own shop is closed until further notice and no indication of delivery.

    Where do you live ?
    Look for local cheese makers.

West Midlands. Any suggestions on where to look for local cheesemakers are very welcome.  I've tried google and facebook so far.

    Hi All,

I've read in the news that there are a lot of artisan cheese producers that are having to throw away their stock due to the Covid lockdown of restaurants etc. I saw one cheese delivery box which looked a nice idea - something along the lines of a 'save our British cheese' box. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations of these? or alternatives? With a lot of the dairies it seems to get a bit pricey esp. once you factor postage in but like the idea of supporting independent producers.

    Thanks!

You're possibly thinking of this one https://www.nealsyarddairy.co.uk/
I bought a box, probably not MSE about a kilo of 3 types of cheese, nearly £30 delivered at the time but I think the idea behind it is good and I am fortunate enough to be able to afford this
I was very pleased with the selection, and still eating it. Which is why I'm not buying this months selection
To me it is cheese as I remember it, The Stilton in particular was superb

Paxton & Whitfield, The Ethical Dairy, Neal's Yard Dairy, Costco, Waitrose, Lynher Dairies, High Weald Dairy. If you find it in your local Iceland, the Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar is good. Occasionally, Lidl has a nice organic farmhouse Cheddar.

Back in April I was lucky to get some very nice cheese from a local delicatessen. Later, after a month of hesitation, we've eventually ordered a "May Bonanza" cheese box from the Northumberland cheese company.  It was a very nice selection, especially if you like strong tasting cheddar. We haven't finished all of them yet. Now ordered their June box, looking forward to it. The order took about a week to arrive.
