Job start date deferred due to coronavirus

Hi there
I was due to start a new job yesterday, Monday 23 March. Contract terms agreed and signed.
My new employer contacted me at the end of last week, informing me that they must sadly delay my start date due to the coronavirus. The reason given was that they do not know how they can possibly train me given that all their staff are now working from home. They have proposed a new start date in a month's time, but want to keep this under review.
I am concerned, however, that the situation is not going to improve any time soon and that my new employer will eventually terminate my contract.
I am thinking of proposing that my new employer takes me on as a furloughed worker but I do not know if this is possible. I believe that they had already set me up on PAYE a few weeks ago. Does anyone know anything about this? I presume that it is too early to say at this stage.
Thankfully, my current employer has, in the meantime, agreed to defer my notice period for another month (but will defer it no further). I am not sure if they would agree to let me stay as a furloughed worker.
Any ideas?
