Non refundable hotel booking through Expedia?

Hi everyone, it's my birthday next week (yay!
) and my wife had booked a hotel in Manchester for us this weekend as well as planning a few other activities. The hotel was booked through Expedia and was non refundable at the time. After the events we were going to got cancelled last week my wife accepted that she would lose her money she paid for the hotel, however given the government instructions about not leaving our homes unless absolutely essential does this now change things in our favour so that she can get her money back? There was no travel insurance booked because it was just the one night and within the uk so she didn't see any need when she made the booking a few months ago. Thanks

Hi there,
I have missed a couple of Expedia bookings on my current holiday due to all the disruption. Both bookings were non-refundable but I filled out the form on the Expedia website to claim a refund anyway. I expected nothing back because in Expedia's Covid-19 FAQs they say non-refundable bookings mean you can't get a refund due to Covid-19.
Much to my surprise I got a refund on one of the hotels. Nothing happened with the other hotel so this method isn't guaranteed to work!
Good luck0 -
It will depend on the hotel. Some companies are relaxing the rules given the situation. If Expedia can get the money back from the hotel then they may well do so and pass it to you as a refund.
Getting in touch with them will be a nightmare, so using the form suggested by @rjr2016 is a good idea.
In these situations you're better off if you'd booked direct as having Expedia in the middle just complicates things.0 -
Hi we had 3 rooms booked (non-refundable) through Expedia at the Heathrow Sofitel. Our trip (not booked through Expedia) was cancelled by the tour operator so we wanted to cancel the hotel. The Accor website states that non-refundable bookings can be cancelled for a full refund if booked directly with the hotel. Expedia have only offered a change of date and did not give a cancel option which we took reluctantly as there was no other option available.
What we wanted was to cancel and to have a refund - as Accor offer.
Anyone else had this problem? Expedia are impossible to get hold of at present (not surprising at this time of course). Any thoughts how to proceed from here?
Many thanks for useful inputs...0 -
Same issue here.3 rooms booked and they sat on their automated chat that if I cancel then they will take full payment anyway.I see on the Expedia website they are still taking bookings for hotels that are closed but only have the non-refundable option also.Profiteering at its worst.0

Ps
give the hotel a call direct and ask for the refund
explain you can’t contact Expedia
I just called my hotel and they asked I call back at least 2 days before the booking date.If they don’t play ball I will contact my credit card company directly0
