Handed notice in and start date for new job delayed - what can we claim?

Hi all
My partner handed her notice in and her last day is 31st March. Her new job was due to begin 1st April but they are not on-boarding anyone now and want to delay her start date to at least 1st May, but obviously it could be longer. She has signed a contract with a 1st April start date.
What financial assistance could she claim - it appears we're in limbo
Thanks, Kristian

I suspect not a huge amount. In normal times the job centre wouldn’t be able to help for around 6 weeks (as she quit her last job). The 80% wages also wouldn’t apply to her old job. She could ask to be furloughed in her new job, but I’m not sure that’s allowed (there is potential for abuse there)
she could look at doing temp work for supermarkets(although her potentially short period of availability isn’t ideal)
As well as support to replace her list edge, she should also be looking for support from mortgage company/landlord and any utilities, in order to minimise her outgoings0 -
That’s not an issue if there was another job to go to.mwarby said:In normal times the job centre wouldn’t be able to help for around 6 weeks (as she quit her last job).Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
I know someone coerced into giving up job 20th December 2019 and whilstmwarby said:I suspect not a huge amount. In normal times the job centre wouldn’t be able to help for around 6 weeks (as she quit her last job).
even paid up until 31st Dec - never had to get into an undignified bawl about it, might have been threatened with a future sanction, but that's easier said then done.
I approached the state for help 12th January after two 90 minutes travel time employer refused to interview (One was an agency/work provider whose bulk response was if you are applying and unemployed : you need the job centre).
In fact the job centre was where I should have gone last April when an insurance co recruited rather haphazardly, then though an agency kept moving the start date until they apparently didn't know who was arriving on site.0
