    Try Citizens Advice.
  • Hi. I'm self employed, earning nothing because of the C19 and we foster two teenage children who my partner stays at home to look after. We're currently renting and have just bought a run down house to refurbish which is currently uninhabitable which we agreed to buy at the end of November. Now, because we have this house we are deemed to have an income from it and so are ineligible for any benefits. So much for support. Sickened at the lack of help, understanding, flexibility. We will currently become broke and homeless.

To claim a budgeting advance you must have been claiming a qualifying benefit for at least 6 months. Have you been claiming UC or one of the legacy benefits for at least this amount of time? See link. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/on-universal-credit/budgeting-advance/
If you have, what reason did they give for not allowing the budgeting advance?
