Groupon Refusing Cash Refund, Insisting on Credits

Hello everyone,
I've tried searching this topic online but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I made a booking with a merchant a few months ago. There is only 8 days left on the booking and the merchant has informed me that they are now closed in the light of COVID-19. Groupon has only agreed to a credit refund towards another voucher on their website that will be valid for 12 months. I do not want this as I used cash to purchase the voucher, not credits, and would simply want the cash back.
Does anyone know where I may stand with insisting on a full cash refund to the original payment card rather than a credit refund?

I doubt this will be possible or given unless their T&C state a cash refund if you no longer redeem the voucher.  A credit voucher is likely the best outcome.
  • I found a clause in their terms of service:
"5.5 If you have been unable to redeem your Voucher with the Merchant before the expiry of the Redemption Period through no fault of your own, you may be entitled to a refund. In order to receive a refund, you must prove to Groupon’s reasonable satisfaction that your inability to redeem the Voucher was not your fault.
The decision to grant a refund is within the sole discretion of Groupon."

It doesn't explicitly mention cash or credits

Good. Give that a go then.
  • Groupon have refused to give me a refund to my bank for a restaurant deal that won’t accept my voucher. The restaurant informed Groupon before lockdown that they would no longer take the vouchers!
Am I entitled to a proper refund instead of a credit to my account?

Have you spoken to Groupon ?

Should have started your own thread rather than drag up an old one.
