Due to being confined to the house for the most part I've decided to tackle some decorating that I'd originally planned to get someone in to do for me. I have the paint for the walls but need to know the best kind of paint to buy for the woodwork. Previously white eggshell finish was used & I understand that this has a tendancy to yellow within a short timeframe, so am asking what satin finish paint should I be looking at to avoid this discolouration?
Also, to completely avoid getting any paint on the edges of the carpet when doing skirting boards, is there a particular brand/type of masking tape that would be preferable to use?

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Personally, I like Johnson's Trade for all paints, but I'm sure others will pop up with more recommendations.
As for the masking tape, nothing but Frog Tape. Not cheap, but it works!0

Always quite liked the Leyland paints from screwfix https://www.screwfix.com/p/leyland-trade-satinwood-paint-brilliant-white-2-5ltr/75370
Seconded about Frog tape but last time I used this https://www.screwfix.com/p/scotchblue-masking-tape-41m-x-50mm/8177x and left it on weeks. Came off with no residue so highly recommended.0

Regarding paint on the carpet, I always just lift the carpet at the edge.Eggshell itself won't yellow, but oil-based eggshell likely will; I would also opt for Johnstone's Trade.1

Dulux Diamond oil based eggshell finish. The only downside is it takes a few days to dry and harden, but it is worth it. It doesn't yellow and the finish is very hardwearing.0

Ah, so it's the oil based paint that yellows over time, which is what I needed to know. My query was the type of paint to look for, not the brand as I only tend to buy reputable brands such as Johnsons, Dulux etc.Thank you, I know what to look for now.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

As I said Dulux Diamond Trade is oil based and it doesn't turn yellow.0

Its not just type of paint, some brands will yellow, some don't. I've had a good effect with satin wood paint from Wilko. Did this three months before a professional painted my kitchen door and that's yellow already.. My woodwork is still pristine white.0
