Due to flight cancellations I now have a positive balance on my Barclaycard. I won’t be making any purchases to offset this, so wanted to transfer the credit to my bank account.
As Barclays are quite busy at the moment, I wondered if there was any way I could do this myself online. I have looked and there is an option for cash transfers, but this seems to attract interest and fees.

    Don't withdraw the cash.

Just ask them to send you the balance.

The only way to do it without incurring fees is by getting them to transfer the balance.
However, the easiest thing to do practically is to just use that card for regular everyday spending (like buying some food or paying a utility bill) instead. That way you don't have to spend hours on the phone and there's no hassle involved. If you use it to part pay something like a utility bill, you can spend the exact amount to the penny so you don't build a balance afterwards too!

Thanks - I didn’t want to call as apparently the waits are over an hour.
If I can’t contact them to transfer in the next few days, I’ll start using the card to pay for my usual purchases.

Unless you need the money, keep it simple and just leave things as they are: the interest you would get elsewhere is likely to be negligible.   Barclaycard will send you a cheque if the balance remains positive for several months, but there will be no penalty.
You may be able to use the whole amount to pay part of your Council Tax.
  • Is it not against credit card Ts&Cs to have a credit balance ?
In practice a small amount is generally ignored.

I am in the same position with a credit balance of more than £2K following the cancellation and refund for upcoming hols. I have just logged into my account and sent them a secure message asking for the credit to be transferred to my Barclays current account. They claim to answer within 24hs and I'll be allerted when their reply comes in. Beats sitting in a telephone helpline queue.
Will report back if all goes well or not.

i think Martins advice is to give banks some leeway cos they will have staff issues so im' not surprised nothing has happened.
can you send them a message when you log on to the website ?

If you add funds to it yes by means of a transfer.
    Refunds are usually somewhat "exempt"...
