Self employed no longer able to work due to virus

My daughter is self employed dental hygienist. Works at 2 practices. She is registered as a PLC. She doesn’t think she can claim for a small business grant under the small business grant as both surgeries pay the business rates. Can she therefore claim the allowance that the chancellor has announced for self employed or is she classified as a business. She has deferred her mortgage for 3 months but doesn’t think she will be able to manage on the £94 if granted it. Any advice is more than welcome

"She is registered as a PLC"? I doubt it unless she's Sainsburys. Do you mean she provides her services via a sole director limited company? If so, we don't think such companies can furlough their sole director under the coronavirus job retention scheme, but we don't have all the details. She doesn't occupy a property that qualifies for SBBR/RRR because the practices pay the rates. That rules out the small business grant. Read the Government's publication on COVID-19: support for businesses for other possibilities like business interruption loans, but it may be universal credit, if she meets the eligibility criteria.
I understand the Chancellor is to make a statement about help for the self-employed very soon, so see what he says. It may also help sole director limited companies.

    Thanks Jeremy,
will let her know. You are most probably right about the sole director limited company.

Don't get your hopes up. An amendment to the Coronavirus Bill doing something like this was not adopted. But I think something will be coming soon.
